Geneva to Courchevel Transfer
Skiing the bling! Renowned for posh hotels and expensive restaurants, there's no denying the skiing is exceptional too.
All the glamour and glitz of Courchevel
First of all, let’s put the record straight about Courchevel. Yes, prices in Courchevel (1850) are ridiculous (we’re talking 18€ for a beer, 40€ for spaghetti bolognaise and 9€ for a hot choc) but Courchevel is made up of four other resorts, where prices aren’t so excessive. So in essence, you don’t have to be an oligarch to ski and snowboard those Courchevel pistes.
The showbiz reputation of Courchevel began when the Jardin Alpin concert and show venue opened, attracting international stars galore. And still today in Courchevel 1850 (now simply called ‘Courchevel’, you’ll see more fur coats, botox and big lips and hear more Champagne corks popping here than anywhere else in the Alps.
Affordable Courchevel – it does exist!
The good news is that, as well as being less pricey and offering the shortest Courchevel transfer time from Geneva, the resort of Courchevel le Praz (formerly know as Courchevel 1300) is much more reasonably priced. What’s more, there are four pistes down from 1850 and two ski lifts to get you directly up there too, so you are well-linked.
Continue on the same road you’ll find La Tania and, once again, Mountain Drop-offs offers private transfers to and from La Tania. Back on the road towards 1850, there’s Courchevel Village at 1550m. This is where the sledging piste from 1850 arrives and there are lifts to whizz you directly into the heart of 1850 too.
Further along the road is Courchevel Moriond (otherwise known as 1650). It boasts a unique position on a south facing ledge and is host to the superbAquaMotion watersports centre. Families will love the relaxed and family-friendly atmosphere.
We should also mention Courchevel Saint Bon at 1100m. It’s the first official resort under the Courchevel umbrella and although it doesn’t have any lifts, there are shuttle buses running all day and you can ski back down.
Access to the whole of the Three Valleys from Courchevel
Wherever you’re staying in Courchevel, you’ll have access to fantastic skiing. Collectively, there are 150km of pistes and 62 different lifts around the Courchevel area. And, being part of the Three Valleys ski area, you will be able to access nearly 600km of pistes across the resorts, with a fast, efficient lift system meaning you can move between resorts and areas easily.
And if you do stop for lunch on the slopes, there’s every chance you might be rubbing shoulders with the rich and famous, with everyone from Wills and Kate, to Katie Price enjoying Courchevel. And it’s the same at apres-ski time in the bars and cafes around the snowfront side of La Croisettte.
Championship pistes
Le Combe de la Saulire has to be the best-known piste in Courchevel and this red is often used for FIS World Cup skiing events too, so have a race down it like a pro. Then try the Grand Couloir at your peril (and note the warning signs next to the start of the piste!). This short, but very very steep black run at the top of the Dent de Burgin at 2739m is probably the toughest black in the whole of the 3Vs and is basically an on-piste ice gully. And you must cruise the Bellecote and Cospillat pistes that weave in and out of the trees, giving you plenty of time to nosy at the posh chalets and hotels on the way past.
Ski school excellence
We have to give a mention to the ski teaching in Courchevel. Many believe the ski schools here offer some of the very best tuition certainly in France, if not Europe, with literally hundreds of fully qualified ski instructors available. Whether you’re a beginner or a good skier wanting to improve technique, this is the place to do it!
